    Description

Truly nice small repousse' engraved acanthus pattern nut or candy dish, c. 1895, from the artisans of the Meriden Brittania Company.
Meriden of the late 19th century was home to many factories producing finished hollowware, table items and wholesale for retailers' marks. Six reformed as the Meriden Brittania Company (later consolidating with International Silver). Sterling wares were produced, often using the silversmiths, not machinery.
This charming 5-3/8" by 7-1/4" softly rounded rectangular dish has a lyrical Beaux Arts curving rolled lip, a graduated bowl 1-1/4" deep, a 3-1/2" by 4" base.
A beautiful banknote steel engraving of four acanthus leaf compass points with a running leaf pattern punctuates the fluid rim.
Amazingly, no dents or dings, a true survivor. Minor abrasion on inside bottom would buff out. (Note: we sell our silver asfound; our clients tell us they want to control their patina.)
Hallmarked pre-International: American Eagle with script M between the wings, "Sterling" stamp, pattern "1084B".
Very good condition. 5.25 oz.+ total weight sterling.
This ships from Dallas carefully upon payment. Please review pictures, ask questions freely. No return accepted.
